The story we tell is set in a town in southern Italy, we are in 1919.
The first great war is over and yet you feel the weight, fascism is coming but no one even imagines.
Everything is prepared for the worst but no one wants to notice anything, not even the most obvious oddities, like a young girl who falls prey to publicly floral pollutions.
We are in a good family in the war that has lost most of his men, Donna Lucia, the head of the family, is now circondata da parenti emigranti (dal Veneto, dall’Argentina) che ritornano a casa, da spasimanti e da due figli, Michele e Assuntina, la bambina santa, di cui va tanto fiera la famiglia tutta, che fa la comunione tutte le mattine e non vede l’ora di prendere i voti.
Così com’è che accade, arriva qualcosa che smuove la radice segreta di questo equilibrio, la passione mistica si fa carne, si fa petali di fiori che prendono possesso di ogni possibile spazio di normalità in eruzioni dal profumo inoccultabile.
